FAMILIARS

Cat Familiar

by / 0 Comments / 12130 View / March 19, 2010
The witches familiar is a companion of a witch, they are drawn together as if by a magnet, each intuitively knowing they are meant to be together, they are similar in character as both are astute, wise, and independent. When the witch and cat are at work together the magic pull is extremely powerful and they know instinctively that it is meant to be, a bonding takes place and the two form a lifelong alliance. Cats have a mysterious air about them and have for centuries been linked to all matters occult.
Cat myths first began in ancient Egypt they were worshipped as the embodiment of the gods. the stories of cats soon reached Greece, Asia and the rest of Europe and they became synonymous with witches, though at the time it was thought that the cats were sent by devils to help witches with their evil workings.
You will learn almost everything about magic from talking to your cat and using a cat in your magic will double any spell’s power. If you are speaking secrets you can be utterly certain your familiar will not betray your trust. Cats are creatures of habit, and like the witch they must have their own sacred space where they sleep, dream and eat, the familiar requires a bowl of cream at the same time each day, she also requires a bowl of water per day and the highest quality cat food available, she needs to be crooned to and stroked as she loves attention, except when she needs time alone, then she is to be left to her own devices and her needs must be headed. You will learn a great deal more about magic from a cat than you would from any witch, a witch would sooner turn you into a toad then give you assistance in witchcraft.
When shopping for a cat you must remember that you don’t choose the cat, the cat chooses you. if you wish to take a cat as your familiar, you must ask permission first, they most likely will agree. When a cat enters a new home it will investigate the area to make sure it is safe before getting comfortable, they are resourceful and will quickly adapt their surroundings.
A cat enjoys its own private area with all accoutrements, nice pillow, blanket, bowl and close to a fireplace. Just like people cats like their privacy so keep their litter tray in a private location, they may refuse to use it otherwise. Cats enjoy quality foods and their meals served in the same place and at the same time of day, they are intelligent, so if you try to switch a brand label cat food, for a generic label, the cat will notice and probably refuse to eat it.
A cat will be of great assistance to any witch or wizard as cats themselves are very powerful witches and can perform a variety of spells, they are very intuitive and their sixth sense cannot be matched. A cat will definitely be a lifelong friend, and as a cat is a magical animal, you will always have mystery and magic within your home.
As soon as the witch and her familiar have chosen each other, the cat and witch will choose a magic name for the cat. Cats with their particular magical abilities are invaluable in the making of magic and magic potions. Cats also help with divination and they enjoy working with the energy within a sacred circle.
The witch is able to telepathically communicate with her cat familiar and has trained her cat to be on the alert for earthly visitors and ghosts, and spirits, the cat also alerts the witch to people who are good or bad.
The familiar always travels with the witch on the back of her broomstick. The witch and her familiar become more bonded as time goes by, the cat, from a kitten has a certain air of worldly knowledge and from young is admitted to the witch’s spiritual rituals. Cat familiars always should be thanked for their assistance and given treats for the support and love they offer the witch, the familiar loves catnip.
The cat talks to her witch companion and lets her know what is going on in the outside world, she lets her witch friend know if there are any changes occurring that she should look out for, the cat can also call or chase away unwanted spirits.
The Egyptian goddess Bast is part cat and part human and sacrifices were once made to her to insure her blessings, the remains  of cats that had been mummified thousands of years ago reveal the sacred role that cats played. The cat can be traced back to the Egyptians who treated their cats as sacred creatures..
Whenever we see an image of a witch and her broomstick, her loyal cat companion is always close by, and when a cat is there as a witch is working the spells she is casting are always more powerful. It is important that the personality of the cat matches the personality of the witch, once the familiar is chosen, aside from naming it she places a magic ring of protection around the animal.
Familiars are very loyal and serve their owners well, witches throughout time have had cat familiars and their familiars are always black, the witch and her familiar ( companion ) become very attached to each other and the familiar helps with powerful magic when spells are being cast. If you have forgotten which ingredient to use in a spell because you didn’t write it down, your cat familiar will knowingly move through your herb and plant area and place her paw on the ingredient you need. A witch and her familiar are spiritually bound and have a telepathic connection, a witch’s familiar always knows when there are spirits around, and have no difficulty communing with both worlds. The witch’s familiar is able to guide the witch between two worlds.
Cat familiars are magical beings with supernatural powers and have helped witches for thousands of years. In the mid 1500’s cats were recognized as the archetypal familiar for all witches, it was thought that a witch was able to turn herself into a cat.
When the witch’s familiar grows old and dies, she is able to guide the witch, from her spirit world to find her new familiar, and she watches over the witch and her new companion. Know that when you are looking for a cat familiar your cat will very likely see you before you see it.

HOME MADE TAROT/ ORACLE CARDS

I would love to have my own Tarot / Oracle  cards...

Just checked out the Google for some helpful hints  regarding the matter....
Just collecting info for my future use...

Maria’s Mystic Tip – How to make your own Oracle Cards

Maria’s Mystic Tip – How to make your own Oracle Cards

posted in: Weekly Updates | 0
I have received a few questions this week about how to choose and use oracle cards, which leads me to write this article.  In particular, a secondary question is how are the oracle cards different from the Tarot cards?
Let me give you a brief description of both and then show you how make your own oracle cards.

The Tarot Cards

There is confusing historical evidence regarding the actual origin of the deck of tarot cards.  If you research you will find contradictory statements about whether they originated from Egypt or Europe.  My own summary is that the pictorial cards that we use today for divination purposes started life as a card game.  The twenty two major arcana as we know them were originally used in a game called Trump.     Mystics during this time had been using a standard pack of playing cards and saw these pictorial cards as having far easier symbolic translation and so adopted them as the Tarot deck.
In the simplest of terms, Tarot cards are a tool to assist you in reading for other people.   Of course, you can use them for yourself but in my experience this can lead to misinterpretation.  It is common nature to make something fit or confuse the living daylight out of ourselves in the process. I always advise that if your intention is to find a divination tool that you will use purely for yourself then Oracle cards will fit the bill.  If you feel drawn to the tarot cards to read for others then the tarot is perfect.    I have linked an article here that I have previously written on the Tarot for a quick reference guide.
Personally, I have the same pack I started with over twenty years ago and I love them with the same emotion when I first unwrapped them.   I happened upon them by accident when I was studying Astrology.  My teacher also taught the tarot so I enrolled and began learning this amazing art of divination.  If you feel drawn towards the tarot in particular then I highly recommend enrolling in a class as the most effective way of learning.

The Oracle Cards

As previously mentioned, these are fantastic if you wish to use them as a divination tool for yourself.   There are no set number of cards as there is with the Tarot decks.  There are so many available and they all come with a handy little booklet that allows you to interpret the meanings.  A lot of my clients have angel cards, medicine cards, fairy cards etc., the list is long and you can find many packs on the internet or at your favourite alternative store.

How to make your own Oracle Cards

As promised though, I will show you how can easily have fun making your own set of Oracle cards.   You will need 10 plain white cards about the size of a postcard.  Write on one side of each postcard the following interpretations and keep the remaining side clear.
  • Divine Guidance
Follow your intuition on this matter – Stop over analyzing as this will cloud your judgement.
  • Protection
You are feeling vulnerable.  Surround yourself with an invisible bubble of protection and know that this too shall pass. You are strong
  • Mental Confusion
The mind is the enemy here.  Sit quietly and meditate or find peace in nature. Surrender your anxiety to the universe.
  • Forgiveness
There is nothing to be gained in blame.   Heal these feelings by writing them down and letting them go. Peace & tranquility await you.
  • Life Change
Change is coming. Do not fear it, embrace it and know that it is time for change.
  • Life Balance
You need to find balance and harmony.  You are focusing on one matter too much and must accept that a happy life requires balance.  You are reminded to have fun.
  • Enlightenment
You are going through a period of change and seeing the world through new eyes – congratulations.
  • Love
You are searching for the perfect love.  To give and receive is the required recipe.  Make sure you are loving yourself first.
  • Money
Universal law reminds you not focus on lack.  Flow gratitude into what you already have and you are sure to receive more.
  • New beginning
A new beginning is on the cards.   Your wish has been heard and granted.
Once you have written the above titles on the cards, you can also write the full interpretations if you wish to save time.  You can also have some fun by adding any form of decoration or symbology, however, you must keep the one side plain.
When you have made your cards you can begin to read for yourself.  There are no set rules here.  You can either decide to take a card whenever you feel the need or you could use a simple three card spread.  Shuffle the cards, spread them out and pick three cards or shuffle them and take the top three and place as illustrated below.
One of my favourite spreads is the general spread as illustrated because the cards can give you an overall answer if you do not have a question in mind at the time of shuffling.
It is entirely at your discretion how to use your own cards.  Have fun and you may be amazed at the answers.

How to Create Your Own Tarot Deck

World Tarot
I first announced my intention to create a Tarot deck back in April 2012. It was on a whim, although I had been playing with the idea to turn my own photography into Tarot images for years.
This is what you do, when you have been working with the Tarot for a while: you look at your life and your environment with Tarot eyes!
First, you start to associate your everyday experiences with specific cards. For example, last year was my Hanged Man year, I’ve been dealt some Tower moments in my life and made a momentous Lovers choice in the early 90s, which has led me to where I am today.
Then you start looking at your holiday snaps and think ‘oh, that would make a great High Priestess‘ or ‘this is just the perfect Star for me‘, and so on…
My drawing talents are very limited, but with the advance of photo-editing software and online resources it has never been easier to turn regular photos into magickal images.
If you are interested in creating your own Tarot (or oracle) deck, but you cannot draw or paint, then why not consider using your own photography instead.
Here are some tips and resources to get you started:
1. Equipment
It’s perfectly fine to use the built-in camera of your smartphone, as long as it’s a minimum of 5 Mega Pixels. You can even use an easy-to-use photo app to edit and beautify your images.
If you use a separate camera, I can recommend the following web-based photo editing software:
http://www.befunky.com/
http://www.picmonkey.com/
Both websites offer many free features, but you can also subscribe to premium membership to access even more.
2. Theme of your Deck
The deck I’m creating reflects my personal life – experiences, interests, philosophy and spirituality.
Think about the theme and framework of your deck, and choose your images accordingly.
For example, for a deck reflecting your personal life, you could include snapshots of family members as court cards (or the people cards of the Major Arcana), you could use a photo of your local church/mosque/temple/synagogue as the Hierophant card, etc.
Next, you can add a specific atmosphere to the cards, such as a Gothic or whimsical feel by choosing the relevant location for your shot and/or adding effects with your photo-editor.

The Fool Tarot of Quotes
My first version of the Fool
3. Getting Started
Set a realistic goal. Unless you are a prolific creator, focus on completing the Major Arcana first. This makes your project seem less overwhelming, and it is very achievable.
Choose the image for each card carefully, but don’t spend too much time on each image either. You can always adjust or change it later. I do the same! That’s the beauty of digital work.
Make sure you save all your images (originals and edited) not only on your computer but also separately on a memory stick or in cloud storage!
4. Sizing and Printing Your Images
When you start creating your images, make sure you size them correctly from the start, otherwise you will have to resize your images later. You can download Tarot card templates from Gamecrafter, where you can also have your deck printed, once it’s finished.
 5. Designing Your Images
As you begin to use a photo-editor, you will learn to add effects and overlays to your images. The first images I created were only cropped, resized and the titles and quotes added (just like the Fool above), but by the time I reached the World, I have learned to fuse various photos into one image. It takes some experimenting, but you can do this too!
6. Copyright
If you are thinking of using images found on the internet as overlays for your own photo, then you need to be careful about copyright.
For example, avoid using celebrity photos for your deck, if you want to publish and sell it (this doesn’t apply, if you print your deck as a one-off for strictly personal use only). Marilyn Monroe might be a great Queen of Cups, but her photos are still under copyright unless otherwise stated with individual images.
Use public domain images or stock images that you can buy or are offered free:
http://www.istockphoto.com/ (pay per image)
http://morguefile.com/ (free images)
Wikimedia Commons (public domain images)
7. Have Fun
Don’t put yourself under pressure by setting crazy deadlines. I don’t know when my deck will be complete, but my target of creating four cards a month is realistic for me. So, if all goes well, May 2014 is my big goal.
Enjoy the process of designing each card and find the right image. It has prompted me to visit new places just to capture a specific image. Creating my own Tarot deck has certainly made me go out there! Smile
8. Turn Your Images into Posters and Art Prints
The completion of your deck might still be light years away, but that shouldn’t stop you from turning the ones already created into hard copies or even merchandise. Check out places like Photobox, where you can turn your creations into all sorts of goodies – from simple prints and greeting cards to canvas wall art.
The process of creating my own Tarot deck has been so enjoyable. I have gained confidence in creating artwork without the need to paint, and it has also been a kind of spiritual experience, because it has made me think about how the image of each card is reflected in my life.
With today’s technology, it has never been so easy to create your own Tarot deck. If you are inspired, go for it and make a start today.

WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT THEN?:
I'm a Tarot enthusiast. I just love tarot and oracle decks of all kinds. I collect them and yes I even use them, reading for friends and for fun. I met my husband when I read his cards. (But that's a story for another day.) I enjoy the tarot from the perspective that it's a tool to unlock the subconscious mind, and it can challenge the reader to think outside the box. For more insight into my philosophy of Tarot check out this great article. )
But I digress…
IN A NUTSHELL: I've made my own Oracle Deck system based off of the Tarot - and I'm sharing this system for FREE under a Creative Commons license.

(PLEASE NOTE: I'm sharing JUST THE SYSTEM for free. I do SELL THE COMPLETED DECK as well if you wish to simply buy the deck. CLICK HERE TO BUY THE DECK. The system itself is free to creators who might wish to create their own deck -  read on below)

WHY FREE?: I'm releasing this under a Creative Commons license because I would love to see this system widely adopted. If a variety of artists use this system to create Oracle decks that would be a lovely thing, we'd have some semblance of familiarity with at least a portion of the Oracle decks on the market, and EVEN BETTER - readers could mix and match their decks, selecting their favorite cards for each archetype and customizing a deck for their own use.

HEY ARTISTS: I know a lot of artists that find Tarot fascinating. Many of us have ambitions/fantasies of creating our own deck. But creating a deck of 78 original works of art is a daunting task. It can take years to finish the art for a Tarot deck. The Major Arcana offer layers of symbolism and diverse imagery, a joy to paint but the suits are full of monotony.
Because of this many artists resort to creating an Oracle deck instead of Tarot. But there are issues with Oracle decks. There is no standardization with Oracle decks, unlike Tarot which you can count on to have the same cards, with the same meanings, despite a change in artistic style. Because of this lack of standardization a reader might be learning a new system with EVERY Oracle deck they buy. I find I long for the familiarity of Tarot whenever I'm playing with an Oracle deck. I know the Tarot system so well that I instinctively look for parallels in oracle systems. I've not found an oracle deck yet that made this easy.
So what's a lazy artist to do? I'd love to create a Tarot deck. I don't want to paint 78 cards. I certainly don't want to paint the boring cards…..
Necessity is the mother of invention as they say - so I created my own Oracle system based off of Tarot. I've been using it for years. I've given it to friends to try out. It's easy. It works. I'm sharing it now with you - for free. I'm releasing the Ashwood Tarot Oracle under a Creative Commons license. You can use it for personal or commercial use to create your own decks. You don't have to pay me to use. BUT you do have to give me credit. More about that later. The main point here is FREE!!
HEY NON-ARTISTS: This is still for you! Even if you have no ambitions to paint your own cards. Guess what? You can still use this system. Maybe you've always been attracted to plant energies of classic Pre-Raphaelite paintings. Using my Tarot Oracle system as a guide you can MAKE YOUR OWN DECK. Just find images that match the energies and themes of each card, and create your own deck. Awesome, a custom deck all your own...  FREE!
Free stuff is awesome.
GET ON WITH IT!

THE ASHWOOD TAROT ORACLE SYSTEM
Intro: This system relies heavily on its association with the Major Arcana. There is much tradition in creating an Oracle deck that mainly consists in associations with the Major Arcana. The earliest Tarot Decks featured only the Trump cards - the Major Arcana, with the suits following in later adaptations. Indeed to this day there are many readers who work with Major Arcana only when doing readings. However this deck does accommodate the minor Arcana as well thru the use of an Elemental suit.
Extras: This Oracle deck uses a set of Dice and a Polarity Coin for readings. These props are not necessary, readers can rely on their intuition, but are a helpful addition for readers that are interested in fine tuning a reading. From a creative standpoint the Polarity Coin and the Dice offer another opportunity to customize the deck according to your own aesthetics.

DICE: provide numerological associations with each card. Clearly the pip cards in the suits are numbered 1-10, but the rest of the Tarot has numerological associations as well and the dice can be used to further deepen a reading.

POLARITY COIN: The coin is used for readers who prefer to include right side up and upside down cards in their readings. (Also referred to as justified and ill-justified). A basic Polarity standard for this coin would be Sunside/Positive/Male  Moonside/Negative/Female (note that positive and negative are used from an energetic standpoint not a social one ie negative = bad    positive = good)

ARCHETYPE SUIT
The 22 Archetype Cards
Twenty-two cards of the ASHWOOD TAROT ORACLE correspond with the twenty-two cards of the major arcana of the Tarot. The cards represent timeless archetypes and are powerful divining tools. In the creation of this deck I strove to break down each card of the Tarot's major arcana into the essence of it's archetype. Artist's painting these cards can feel free to draw upon the traditional symbolism of the classic Tarot cards, or explore their own unique take on the card's energy. However care should be taken that the point of this system is that the reader should be able to use the card's Tarot based correspondence to rely on an instant connection to the card.
On the left is the name of the card in the Ashwood Tarot Oracle System - on the right is the name of the card as found in the Major Arcana of the Traditional Tarot Deck.
Caution – The Moon
Confrontation - Judgment
Destiny – Wheel of Fortune
Development – The Empress
Freedom – The Fool
Fulfillment – The World
Integration – The Star
Manifestation – The Magician
Meditation – The Hermit
Movement – The Chariot
Partnership – The Lovers
Patience - Temperance
Prosperity – The Sun
Rebirth - Death
Revelation – The Hanged Man
Security – The Emperor
Self Destruction – The Devil
Strength - Strength
Tradition – The Hierophant
Upheaval – The Tower
Wisdom – The High Priestess

===================================================================================================

WILD CARD SUIT
The 3 Wildcards
Three additional cards reside with the 22 Cards of the Archetype Suit. These are the Wildcards and have been added to specifically address issues that are frequently found in divinatory readings. Choice, Mystery and Passion each address specific needs. These are issues that often come up in a reading yet do not have a clear and dedicated corresponding card in the traditional Tarot.
Choice - Empowerment, it's up to you
Mystery – The Unknown, this just isn't knowable right now. Akin to the Magic 8 Ball answer of "ask again later"
Passion – Desire, is there to much or too little of this emotion at play in this situation?
===================================================================================================

ELEMENTAL SUIT
The 5 Elemental Cards
Five cards are added to the 22 archetype cards to represent the 5 elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. Four of these can be used to represent the elements associated with the four suits of the Tarot. Spirit (card title – The Divine), while not represented via a suit in the traditional Tarot is still a powerful card in representing our relationship with the divine and can be freely used in the same manner as if it were a suit of its own. There is great benefit to breaking the suits down into their elements. For years debate has raged in the Tarot community as to the original elemental associations of Swords/Air Wands/Fire - Many reverse these associations. Using the Ashwood Tarot Oracle system removes the association completely, and these suits are represented solely as their elements.

PIPS: When reading an Oracle Deck based on this system the reader will use a set of dice. To fine tune a reading and explore cards 1-10 in the suits, a reader simply pulls an elemental card from the deck and rolls the dice to find it's numerical accompaniment. This number will give the reader the cards correspondent in the Tarot. So for instance pulling the Imagination card (Element Air) and rolling the dice for a result of three would be the 3 of Swords in Traditional Tarot. To further fine tune the interpretation of this card the reader flips the polarity coin.

FACE CARDS: To determine if a card pulled from the Elemental Suit is a Face Card (King, Queen, Knight, Page) the reader will flip the Polarity coin and interpret it according to their own assigned symbolism. For example Sunside flipped twice = King ------  Sunside followed by a Moonside = Knight --------  Moonside flipped twice = Queen ------ Moonside followed by a Sunside = Page

Creation - Fire (suit of wands – creativity, drive)
Emotion – Water (suit of cups – feelings, relationships)
Imagination – Air (suit of swords – mind, intellect)
Practicalities – Earth (suit of pentacles – body, security)
The Divine – Spirit (suit of the sacred – divinity, higher self, true purpose)

20 Best Skincare Herbs for treating ECZEMA

20 Best Skincare Herbs for treating Eczema

Following on from the great success of my ‘20 best oils for treating eczema‘ article, it’s clear to me that people are keen to find out more about natural skincare ingredients and how they can benefit eczema.

Best Oils for EczemaIn the UK, one in five children and one in twelve adults have eczema, while eczema and contact dermatitis account for 84-90% of occupational skin disease. For that reason, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that plenty of people are trying to find natural treatments for this very common skin problem.
Eczema comes in many different shapes and forms, but is essentially a chronic inflammation of the skin. The word ‘eczema’ comes from Greek and means ‘to boil over’ which just about summarises the way inflamed skin can look.
A cornerstone of managing and treating eczema is to keep the skin soft and supple. This can be done by using emollients, which keep the skin moist and flexible. However, as the HerbBlurb blog looks at botanical extracts and how they can benefit the skin, I also wanted to cover the best herbs to treat eczema.
20 best herbs for treating eczema
Have a Pinterest account? Why don’t you ?
Chamomile Skincare1. Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis or Matricaria recutita) – these two different chamomiles are antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. Chamomile is also considered to be hypoallergenic with the ability to neutralise skin irritants. It is one of the few herbs that has been included in clinical trials to look into its effectiveness in skincare. Most documented studies have been completed in Germany using a chamomile cream or ointment. In one trial with humans, chamomile was found to have an effect that was 60% as active as 0.25% hydrocortisone when applied topically. In another trial, the chamomile ointment was effective in reducing dermatitis following a single application of sodium lauryl sulfate (Brown & Dattner, 1998). Read more about the uses of chamomile in skincare and its chemical constituents such as bisabolol.
2. Chickweed (Stellaria media) – not a commonly known herb, chickweed is a small white flower that is native to Europe. It has been used in herbal medicine and Chinese medicine for hundreds of years and is even today still recommended by herbalists for skin diseases. This little herb exhibits extremely effective anti-inflammatory and anti-viral activity, which is due to a number of compounds it contains such as polysaccharides, flavonoids and cyclic peptides (Ma et al. 2012).

3. Calendula (Calendula officinalis) – this herb has been known for many generations as an anti-inflammatory herb that can treat a range of different skin conditions. Calendula is believed to benefit eczema by reducing inflammation, eliminating bacteria, and helping the skin heal. Although no clinical trials have been conducted to look specifically at how calendula can treat eczema, studies have however been undertaken to look at the treatment of acute dermatitis in cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. One study in 2004 found that the occurrence of acute dermatitis in women who had undergone radiation treatment for breast cancer was significantly lower for those who had used calendula ointment (Pommier et al., 2004).
4. Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – not just a tasty sweet, liquorice is actually a great leafy plant from which the root is harvested for use in food and herbal medicine. It contains a compound called glycyrrhizin, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity. In 2003 a clinical trial was undertaken to look at the effects of applying a liquorice gel to people with dermatitis. After two weeks, redness, swelling and itching had decreased significantly in the 100+ people studied as part of the trial. The study found that liquorice extract could be considered an effective herb for the treatment of eczema (Saeedi et al., 2003).
Oats Natural Skincare5. Oats (Avena sativa) – oatmeal has been used as a soothing herb for thousands of years in order to relieve itching and irritation. I have personally used oats on my son’s eczema in the bath with great success. Oats contain compounds called avenanthramides which are potent anti-inflammatory agents and also exhibit anti-oxidant activity (Sur et al., 2008). Various clinical studies have been undertaken to look at the effect of oats on eczema and these have all found a significant reduction in skin redness, dryness, scaliness, itching and erythema after application of oat extracts. These results were found for adults as well as children (Nebus et al., 2012).
6. Burdock (Arctium lappa) – burdock is one of those herbs that is viewed as a weed by most people in the Western world. However, its taproots are actually eaten throughout Asia and it is high in lots of minerals and vitamins. It’s been used as a medicinal herb for centuries for soothing the gastrointestinal tract. In North America, the Cherokee, Malecite, Menominee Ojibwa traditionally use Burdock for the relief of dry, scaly skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis and in the treatment of acne. One of the reasons that burdock may be useful for skin conditions is its high percentage of mucilage and inulin. Mucilage, when mixed with water, will create a gel-like substance that can soothe the skin. Inulin is a humectant, which means that it draws moisture up through the skin to hydrate the upper layers.
Aloe vera7. Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) – records have been found dating back over 2,000 years listing aloe vera as a skin treatment for eczema. Legend has it that Alexander the Great conquered the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean on the advice of the great philosopher Aristotle, solely for the purpose of obtaining a sufficient supply of aloe vera plant to rub on the wounds of his soldiers. Research has found that aloe vera contains wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties (Subramanian et al., 2006) which is why it is thought to be effective on eczema. Although to my knowledge no clinical trials have been undertaken to date, anecdotal evidence suggests that aloe vera results in less itchy skin and reduced infection.
8. Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) – this herb is named milk thistle because of the milky sap it contains which is a demulcent, meaning that it creates a gel-like layer, trapping moisture and soothing the skin. Milk thistle contains a compound called silymarin which was the subject of a study by Italian researchers in 2008. They applied a product which contained milk thistle to a group of rosacea patients over the space of a month and found that an overall improvement in skin redness, itching, hydration, and skin colour (Berardesca et al., 2008). Plenty of anecdotal evidence suggests that milk thistle alleviates the symptoms of eczema.
Dandelion Natural Skincare
9. Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) – in recent years studies have reported that drinking dandelion juice can stimulate the liver and help clean up dyshidrotic eczema (the kind which causes tiny bubble-like blisters paired with intense itching). However, applying dandelion externally can also help with eczema. Dandelion sap, otherwise known as dandelion milk, is used in treating skin diseases caused by microbial or fungal infection. Its flowers are a fantastic natural source of lecithin, which is a moisturising nutrient often used in skincare. Dandelion root contains a number of different compounds including inulin which, as we saw with burdock, draws moisture up to the skin. To date, no studies seem to have been undertaken on the topical benefits of dandelion for eczema, but its compounds suggest that it may be useful in treating this common skin disease.
10. Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) – No other herb in the entire plant kingdom is as rich in silicon as horsetail. Silicon is the material of which collagen is made. Collagen is the “body glue” which gives the skin its muscular tone and elasticity and is needed by your skin for the normal regeneration of healthy skin tissues. Horsetail has been used to improve the strength, tone, and texture of the skin, hair, and nails. This herb may also be used to relieve itching, irritation, and inflammation associated with skin conditions such as eczema, whilst also improving circulation and rejuvenating the connective tissue. Horsetail has been found to be effective in the topical control of allergic contact skin diseases, which may be related to its anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties (do Monte et al., 2004; Hayat, et al., 2011).
St John's Wort Natural Skincare11. St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) – St. John’s wort has been used historically for the topical treatment of bruises and mild burns, and to speed wound healing. Hyperforin is a constituent of the herb that has been found to have antibacterial activity. One study applied a cream containing St. John’s wort to eczema on one side of the body and a placebo cream on the other side for a period of four weeks. The St. John’s wort cream showed an improvement in redness, crusting, scaling and skin thickening, together with a reduction of skin infection (Schemmpet al., 2003).
12. Neem (Azardica indica) – Neem oil is used for a large variety of ailments, but seems to be particularly beneficial for skin problems. Its oil is used for eczema and a number of other skin diseases such as ringworm and scabies. It is a powerful insect repellant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and also strengthens the body’s overall immune responses. Neem oil contains fatty acids which build collagen, promote wound healing and maintain the skin’s elasticity. Clinical studies have also revealed that neem inhibits inflammation as effectively as cortisone acetate, this effect further accelerates wound healing (Raina et al., 2008).
Turmeric Natural Skincare13. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) – this herb has been widely researched and found to have many uses. Turmeric has magnificent wound healing activity. It has antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties (Khiljee et al., 2011). It is used and quoted widely for its use in treating eczema, but little data is available to verify this. Nonetheless, it seems that the active ingredient curcumin present in turmeric possesses anti-inflammatory and bactericidal properties which may help treat inflammation of skin associated with eczema.
Lavender bee - Herb & Hedgerow14. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) – this herb is one of the most versatile botanical extracts available for skincare. It is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti- …well, it’s anti-practically everything. Lavender is thought to stimulate cellular growth and regeneration in the skin by helping your upper layer of skin rejuvenate itself. The fact that lavender calms down inflammation, speeds up wound healing and deals with infection means that it will also have a beneficial effect on eczema. Its essential oil is one of the only ones which are safe to use neat on the skin.
15. Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) – this herb is known to relieve itching and help with “weeping” or oozing eczema. In one study, 22 patients with eczema were treated with a standardised witch hazel salve on one arm and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory cream on the other over the course of three weeks. While the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory cream worked, the witch hazel was just as effective for improving symptoms like redness, scaling, and itching (Swoboda & Meurer, 1991).
Comfrey Allantoin Cosmeceutical16. Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) – also known as ‘knit-bone’, comfrey is a great skin healing herb. Comfrey is said to help ‘knit’ cells back together after a laceration or abrasion. It contains a cosmeceutical called allantoin which is used to treat wounds, ulcers, burns, sunburns, eczema, psoriasis, impetigo, and acne and other skin eruptions. Allantoin works as an antioxidant, encourages the generation of new cells and speeds up the shedding of dead skin cells. It has skin softening properties and is said to act as a remover of scaly tissue.
17. Cleavers (Galium aparine) – otherwise known as goosegrass, cleavers has astringent properties and is thought to have a toning, firming effect on skin. When used externally, cleavers is said to benefit eczema and psoriasis as it has anti-inflammatory properties. Cleavers is also used externally for healing wounds and sores, cysts, boils, swellings or for treating skin infections and swollen lymph glands.
Mallow Natural Skincare18. Marsh mallow (Althea officinalis) – this plant is a very useful medicinal herb, as its soothing properties make it very effective in treating inflammations and irritations of the skin when it comes to eczema. The whole plant, but especially the root, is high in mucilage and highly emollient. Mucilage will create a gel-like substance that can soothe which is particularly useful when it comes to inflamed areas of the skin.
19. Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) – this herb has been used on the skin to treat wounds, herpes sores, and other skin conditions such as eczema. Goldenseal contains the chemical berberine, which might have effects against bacteria and fungi and is in research for its possible immune stimulation properties. Goldenseal is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, astringent and used for healing wounds which would suggest that it is useful in treating inflammation and skin irritations caused by eczema. This herb was a popular remedy amongst Native Americans who used it as a skin soother (Kemper, 1996).
Nettle Natural Skincare20. Nettle (Urtica dioica) – stinging nettle has been used for centuries to treat eczema. It is anti-inflammatory, astringent, bactericidal, healing, mildly deodorant and stimulating. Research has also found high anti-microbial activity in nettle extracts (Gülçin, 2004). This herb’s characteristic ‘sting’ may reduce the inflammation in the body that causes eczema, as well as the painful and itchy symptoms that go along with it. Scientists think nettle does this by reducing levels of inflammatory chemicals in the body, and by interfering with the way the body transmits pain signals (University of Maryland Medical Center, 2013).
Which herbs have you used to treat your eczema? Please share your experiences in the comments below!
Please note – It goes without saying that if you intend to experiment with any of these herbs, you should consult with a medical herbalist and always do a skin patch test first. Although all of these herbs are safe to use on the skin, some people can be allergic or sensitive to certain plants which can cause dermatitis or allergic reactions. Be sensible and always test new ingredients out before incorporating them into any kind of skincare regime.

Cat Purrs Harness Holistic Healing Powers

We all know that the ancient Egyptians worshipped felines to a marvelous extent.
There’s no question that these civilians openly celebrated the value of cats
 and even glorified them remarkably.
Their art, culture, and interpreted lifestyle seem to revere cats prominently.
This information is well known, yet most of us have often wondered their reasoning
behind this unusual behavior.
Few have made speculations, but we really just haven’t been able to sufficiently verify these assumptions.

Is it possible that the ancients knew something that we might have missed..?
Further examination suggests this may likely be the case! :)

Current domestic findings have lead us to the rediscovery of many key factors.
These points primarily correspond to the mystery of this “kitty loving conduct,”
and as it turns out- the most critical element may most likely be obscured
in a uniquely produced self-healing abilitythat is exhibited throughout all feline species.

 http://thespiritscience.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/egypt-cat.jpg

How do we know that cats have “healing powers..?”

New studies have provided evidence that the cat’s purr actually acts as a therapeutic apparatus
not only regenerating the body, but also fortifying it to resilient magnitudes.
The purr has been shown to significantly accelerate the recovery of their bones and organs
while also greatly increasing their density in the process.
These conclusions indicate that the averagely accepted belief in which cats only purr while they are content, might very well be a misconception
One other reason this might be, is the fact that observation has shown cats
to also purr in other less pleasurable circumstances, like when wounded, frightened, or when giving birth. This suggests that the purr would certainly play an evolutionary role as some kind of a survival mechanism

Many cats in ancient times commonly received admiration and had also been consequently deified
for their miraculous ability to resist harm and even reduce excessively severe impact.
Regular events such as these, likely attributed to the inspiration for the
“all cats have nine lives” myth we have so often heard! ;)

http://thespiritscience.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Bastet-Goddess-235x300.jpg
Bastet: The goddess of protection against contagious disease and evil spirits.
She is often shown carrying a sistrum in one hand as depicted here.

In what ways did this influence cultural history?
Through further investigation and analysis we can assume that plenty of past societies applied
a very same use of vibratory healing, much like our feline friends
It’s highly probable that similar sound therapy techniques were adopted from the feline genus
and later utilized by the Egyptians for medical use

The sistrum, was a sacred percussion instrument in ancient Egypt. (Perhaps originating in the worship of the cat goddess Bastet,)
Egyptian priestesses ritualistically used sistra, that as we know now, generate copious amounts
of ultrasound
Ultrasound is an effective healing modality, and is used today in hospitals and clinics.
Certain levels of ultrasound have even been known to treat severely life-afflicting ailments,
like cystic fibrosis, and various forms of cancer
This means that it is entirely possible that ceremonies in which many sistra were used,
were not merely employed only to enhance the musical atmosphere,
but were likely intended mainly to amplify the healing effect.

How can we use this knowledge?
This type of alternative medicine is helpful in mending, restructuring, and realigning our vital systems. Whether technologically manifested or biologically manifested, these studies do compellingly attest
to the future of musical therapy as an applicable modern health procedure.
These treatments invoke alleviating qualities, acting as an energetic massagerelieving pain and restoring the body beyond its typical extent.
This may also be one of the reasons why specific techniques involving spoken mantra
have been taught and implemented in the practice of meditation.

The word “mantra,” is actually a Sanskrit word, that accurately translates to the phrase: “mind instrument.”
A mantra is a powerful sound vibration, much like that of a sistrum, or even more so- like a cat’s purr; bearing its own extraordinary hidden qualities.
This furthermore suggests that it would be most beneficial to experiment with different meditative utterances, in order to heighten our understanding in terms
of how each of these tones might rejuvenate and strengthen the body.

Since we’re only limited by our power to vocalize.. that means the possibilities are Endless!! :D

HOW TO CLEANSE YOUR AURA

the aura

HOW  To CLEANSE  Your AURA

qx14ir
Visualize Your Aura
In a quiet room, sit or lay down comfortably in a position you can keep for about 15 – 20 minutes. Start by focusing on your breath, inhale and exhale slowly.
Create a steady stream of breath, let there be no gaps in between each breath. Focus on the rise and fall of your stomach. Focus on how it feels, how the tips of your fingers and toes feel, how the air surrounding every inch of your being feels. Sink into the relaxation.
Visualize a white light starting to form at the crown of your head. Imagine it’s iridescent glow slowly spilling down, have it surround you completely.
Envision it encompassing every fibre of your being and merging with your skin. Imagine it’s warmth and the protection it brings you.

Create a Protection Bubble

Feel that you are safe, and as an extension of universal consciousness; you are eternally loved.
814a1e71a412f7a537149082e9759430
Visualize this brilliant light expanding outwards from you in all directions.
Blend it’s energy into everything around you, extending out into infinity. This expansive light is all there is.
Create a space of safety and transparency for yourself.
Ask yourself how you feel in the moment.
What do you consider to be the negative factors in your life?  What do you really want in life?
What do you want to give? And how would you like to do it?
Know in this space, you can answer as honestly and impulsively as you want.
There is no judgement and there are no consequences for your answers.
Right and wrong does not exist from a universal perspective, everything just IS.

Go To The Core

There are many versions of an auric cleanse, but they all really come down to a release of energy that makes us feel lighter in the end.
human-energy-field1
It takes the effort of asking yourself how you feel and what you’re willing to do to make yourself feel as good as possible.
We can visit the greatest energy healer of all time, but in the end we will still carry our own emotional baggage from unresolved issues or feelings we have buried.
Everything is energy and we all have the ability to transmute and transform the universal geometries. A full energetic healing needs to be coupled with the resolution of emotional traumas.
Emotions and thoughts exist as ‘physical’ energy that we are all able to see when we’re in alignment with ourselves.
If our emotions are dense and heavy, it makes us literally feel ‘low’ and ‘down’.
To fully focus  on the core of an emotion, we usually start at a top layer of a broader feeling.
An example of this can look like:
I’m feeling scared..
  • because I feel alone
  • because I push people away
  • because I don’t want to feel betrayed
  • because I was already betrayed by my peers
  • because I was mean to THEM first
  • because my parents didn’t teach me love
  • because they didn’t know how
So that vibration translated through my life, now I’m scared as an adult from various, seemingly unrelated situations from my childhood. Everything is connected.
When you can follow the thread of an emotion back to its original spark, the first time it really hit you, thats where a true aura cleanse exists.
The first step to freeing yourself from an emotional entrapment, is just to acknowledge the existence of it. This process of pin pointing all the connecting factors in your life that led you to where you are now, can take years depending on how open and ready you are to experience it.
It can also  just take a few quick moments if thats how your processing system works.  The more you regularly you do this, the more transparent and honest you are with yourself.
You become a master of knowing yourself and knowing when you’re speaking from a space of fear or anger and you learn the steps needed to get you out of that mindset. All you need to do is take the time to listen to yourself.
